I mean im not racist or anything, Im just talking about a majority of white people, do they know how to do it. When I went to the white stylist all she could do was put do a roller set. Are they trained to do it?

no they dont....they dont know that our hair needs grease and stuff coz most mexicans and whites WASH THERE HAIR everday soooooooo yea if you werent raised with blacks i wouldnt think you'd understand but some do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ideally an hair stylist should know how to style any type or hairs. However if she is not knowing, then it is our duty to let her know.

It will be good if you gift her a hair styling book which includes hair styles for blacks.

Better take positive actions instead of complaining. I am sure you will do something to become an example for others.

it's more about the salon and it's clientele than the stylist. it depends on whatever the stylist has experience with. i work with white stylists who can do "black hair" and i work with black stylists who can do "white hair".

try not to generalize people.

I would think that most people going through training to be a cosmetologist are trained on all hair types, but that being said, I know alot of white hair stylists that would not be comfortable doing anything major (permanent,coloring,extensions,etc.)to a black person's hair because they don't have much experience with that type of hair. Heck, there are white stylists that aren't comfortable doing certain things to another white person's hair...like my girl....she doesn't do styling for special occasions because I have long hair.

I think it's all about what level of experience they've had and how confident they are in their ability. If I were black, I would go to a black stylist simply because she could understand my hair needs better. Kind of like going to a male gyn doctor....he's still a doctor, and he's qualified, but he's never been a woman.

Only thing i ever did was to cut black boyfriends of mine, hair. He did like it. Nothing else, tho...ask in a salon some white stylist, i am white also, but not a stylist.

I'm mixed and I got great hair tips from white people about avoiding bad ingredients in hair products and how natural products are the best.It saved my life=).I went to a black hair dresser months ago and I didn't like how my natural hair was not handle gently.I think it is great that she still did your hair even though she is not experience in that type of hair.Are you natural or relaxed because it makes a difference too in this discussion.Treated black relaxed hair shouldn't be hard for anyone to do.Any race can do any type of natural hair if they want to.
