I trimmed my own hair and now all the ends look white. What happened? FYI: my hair is brown?

The scissors you used were not as sharp as you needed and so during the cutting process, the ends of your hair were either torn or crushed. If you look at one of your hairs under a microscope, you will see the beginnings of a split end.

Damaged ends from the tool you used to cut it?

Sounds like you might have used a dull pair of scissors and caused some end's to either break off or split again.

You need to have them trimmed with a good pair of hair cutting scissors.

don't ever trim your hair at home once i cut my bangs at home and they looked horrible then i got a haircut at the salon and it looked back to normal. If you want to trim your hair do it in the salon because who knows what will your hair will look like when you;re all done.

There may have been some bleach or peroxide on the clippers/scissors. That happened to me once when I tried to clip my pubic hair. Apearantly there was some peroxide on the scissors and my hairs turned a blondish grey color. not a good look.
