A dog I had was white and bluish gray short hair with blue eyes. Weighted between 50 and 60 lbs. l?

He kind of looked like he had some lab . He didn't drool or bark much unless to alert me. His bark sounded like a hound. He got along well with the other animals in the house, but was aggressive to other animals coimng around. He retreived at just a few months old. He made up eagerly with people.

Any ideas.

I realize being a mutt he could have any number of breeds.

My first thought was an Australian Cattle Dog also known as Queensland Heeler, Blue Heeler, or the Hall's Heeler. These are very smart dogs and often have the China eye. (Blue eyes).

They are a combination of the blue Merle Collie, Old English Sheepdog, Dalmatian and Australian Kelpie. Originally called the Blue Heeler, it wasn't until 1903 that they were known as the the Australian Cattle Dog.

Check this page to see if there is any physical resemblance:

The key I found for your dog was the part about being aggressive to other animals. If you have children, he will be very protective of his own and very wary of rough play between children.

They are a very very smart dog and the ones I have known were like bullets full of energy.

Sounds like an Australian Shepherd to me.

He sounds like an Australian Cattle Dog (AKA Queensland Blue Heeler) or Australian Shepherd. The cattle dogs have shorter, sleek hair while the shepherds have longer, wavier hair.

Yes it most likely has Australian Shepperd in it. I used to have one when i was younger. They are hyper when they are young and are very protective.

Most mutts are so far removed from any purebreds in their lineage that it's more accurate to just call them a mutt, or non-purebred. And even if one of his close ancestors happened to be a purebred, you really can't tell which purebred it is, and odds are low that he'd even act like the breed.

From your description of his hair, eyes, size, and personality, I might say he had some Catahoula leopard dog and maybe Labrador retriever, if he really does have any close purebred in him.

But if I were you, I would just be content that he is a one-of-a-kind dog, not the result of a mixture of breeds.
