My 1 year old purebred Miniature Pinscher has white hairs!?

She is one year old and purebred. Sometime in the last few months I noticed that she has a few white hairs. There are two on her back about 4 inches from each other and there is one on her neck. I also just noticed today a few on her head and face. Should I be concerned about this!? She is only one!

This is very common in minpins. The stray white hairs are actually the product of a recessive gene in all minpins. I have seen some minpins with whole patches of white hair, although that is considered undesireable in pins.

Your dog is not prematurely grey, but more hairs may crop up through her life. Dont pull them out-they will just grow back.

We refer to them as "wild hairs" at my pin house.

Nope, she's just fine. Some purebred dogs just get a few stray white hairs.

My three and a half year old Border Collie has white hairs too.

I think the dog will be okay.

I'm sure it's fine. It's just hair color. She might also be one of those dogs that go prematurely "gray-haired". I knew a golden retriever once that had the white muzzle by age 2! Everyone thought she was 8 years old when she was just 2!

  1. My 13 week old min pin rust/black coat. she has white hairs growing on her neck and on her legs and she is purebred. Will her coat change color when she gets older?
